Songs for the Prayer Vigil

If you follow this link, you can download a file with the songs that will be used for the Ecumenical Prayer Vigil, Together | Gathering of the People of God on September 30 in St Peter’s Square and in many other places throughout the world on or around the same date. Songs that people are familiar with can also be sung, but singing a good number of the same songs in many places is a great sign of communion. Each preparation group should discern what is best for your situation so that we can all entrust the work of the Synod to the Holy Spirit together.

The songs to be used during the prayer vigil are:

  • Adsumus Sancte Spiritus
  • Alleluia 11
  • Dona la pace
  • Kyrie 13
  • Bénissez le Seigneur
  • Magnificat 3
  • Adoramus te O Christe
  • Tu sei sorgente viva

The following songs will be used after the vigil as people continue to pray, but may be changed at the last moment:

  • Laudate omnes gentes / Славiте, всi народи
  • Jesus, remember me
  • Nada te turbe
  • Bless the Lord
  • Beati voi poveri
  • Tu mecum es

If you are not familiar with using these songs for prayer https://www.taize.fr/en_article338.html can be a good introduction. When using YouTube recordings to help, please use the ones published by Taizé as your reference.

The instrumental, voice and solo parts for these songs can be downloaded at http://www.exultet-solutions.com/shop/pages-main/partner_id-10/category-50/sheet-music.html with the exception of Tu mecum es (download the solo parts here) and Adsumus Sancte Spiritus, which is a new song composed especially for Together, based on the ancient prayer of invocation to the Holy Spirit for an ecclesial assembly of governance or discernment and has been used throughout the Synodal process. See https://www.synod.va/en/what-is-the-synod-21-24/the-adsumus-prayer.html for further information about this prayer.

We will publish in the coming weeks the service order for the prayer vigil in St Peter’s Square with the Bible readings, prayers and intercessions. This can be adapted for the vigils taking place elsewhere in the world in order to reflect the local reality.
